Our Ticks of Yum

One Year with the Thermomix

Posted by Bee & John on April 11, 2011 at 7:17 AM

I have just chalked up a year with my Thermomix!  Yay! (er.... OUR Thermomix)

I thought I would share with you, some of the changes the Thermomix has made in my life.

Firstly and foremost... It has started to get chilly here in Adelaide, and I haven't had my warmer clothes out for the last 6-8 months (LOVE the weather here in Adelaide).  I went to put on the clothes with my usual trepidation, plus some more.  After all, I have the body type that puts on about 4-5 kilos a year just by eating normally.

This last year I have had LOTS of fresh, hot bread - slathered with butter (I used to avoid that!), cakes, scones, speciality dishes like rich indian food or stews, deserts (which USED to be a tub of icecream [I might point out that this was NOT eaten in one sitting - bought one tub a week LOL] but are now things like home made icecream, sorbet, cakes, puddings, custards etc)

My clothes?  They fitted!  Now I'm the first to say I would love them to be a smaller size... but this is the first year in 30 years that I haven't had to either buy new clothes or go on a diet!!  Imagine what I could do if I TRIED to go on a diet!

Why didn't I put on weight, despite all the things I was eating??  Well, 2 things come to mind,

1- I guess that good, natural food is easier to process for the body, and

2 - what the hell was in all that processed, food, that I USED to eat!!!???  Those breads that stayed fresh for up to a week.... the "convenience" packets of meal bases.... the tins/packets of soup???

A few other things I've noticed now I have a Thermomix
* my shopping takes only 1/2 the time it used to, as I don't have to go down some isles!
* I put my recycling bin out only 1 in 2 or 3 cycles as we don't use ANYWHERE near the amount of packaging I used to
* The time I spend cleaning up after cooking a meal has reduced significantly!!! Usually it is the Thermomix, a knife and a chopping board.
* I now LOVE cooking - not in the way real lovers of cooking do, in that cooking-is-art sort of way, or the cooking-is-relaxing sort of way, but in the cooking-is-easy sort of way!
* we save enough money with the thermomix, that I can afford to stay home and not work full time like I used to!
