I have recently been introduced to the humble Chia Seed.
Because of the wonders of the Thermomix, I can easily add it to most of what I am cooking/baking/drinking! Sneaking some good grain into my "no grain bread for me" husband without him noticing!
Chia is an ancient food source, recently rediscovered. "Chia" is the Mayan word for strength.
What is it really? It is a tiny little seed, from an annual herb, that tastes of nothing! NOTHING! and which swells in liquid - making a gel like substance you can use in baking OR to make you feel full, without as much food and without expensive diet drinks/systems.
According to what I have read, it is really high in all the good stuff, and in addition, because it delays absorption of your food.... it seems to make most of what you eat low GI? (Particularly good for diabetics I read)

Although you can get Chia seeds in the supermarket and they aren't too expensive, it is much cheaper to go to your local produce market where there is a stall selling seeds, grains and nuts and you should find it there. I paid $11 for 1/2 a kilo at Adelaide Central Market.
